Jumbo-Visma have seen the last two mountain stage before the first rest day at the 2023
Tour de France not exactly go to plan with
Tadej Pogacar taking back time on the
Jonas Vingegaard.
Wilco Kelderman remains confident in his leader though.
“The plan was to do a part on the less steep part, and to do another push for the steep part. That was according to plan,” said Kelderman in his post-stage 9 interview, a day that saw Michael Woods take the stage win and Pogacar claw back another 8 seconds on Vingegaard. “I know this is not a perfect climb for Jonas, but there are still some opportunities in the Alps. For now we have done a good job, on to the rest day."
With plenty more mountains to come, Kelderman is confident that his leader will be able to bounce back and secure his second straight Tour de France victory.
“Jonas really needs a tough mountain stage, that's his advantage over Pogačar. This doesn't necessarily scare me," he continues before referencing the somewhat eerie final where no spectators were allowed. “First all the craziness of the audience in front and then four kilometers of silence. That was nice in itself, and there was a nice view.”
