Bahrain - Victorious proved to biggest challenge to
INEOS Grenadiers and
Tao Geoghegan Hart's dominance at the
Tour of the Alps and
Santiago Buitrago is refusing to give up hope of taking the overall win.
"I'm really happy with the result achieved today," Buitrago stated in a post-race interview following stage two of the Tour of the Alps where the Colombian finished in third behind the eventual winner Geoghegan Hart and Buitrago's teammate Jack Haig in second. "We're second and third on the stage, and I took this blue jersey for best climber. I'm satisfied with today."
With stage 3, the Queen stage of the 2023 Tour of the Alps taking place later today, Buitrago and Bahrain-Victorious are planning to go all out to put pressure on the INEOS Grenadiers. "This will be a very demanding stage, we want to do well," says Buitrago. "There are three days left, we are here to win, so we will definitely try again."
Haig and Buitrago currently sit sixth and seventh respectively in the general classification, twenty-eight and thirty seconds down on Geoghegan Hart.
