After helping teammate Tao Geoghegan Hart to his second successive stage win at the Tour of the Alps, INEOS Grenadiers Pavel Sivakov expressed his criticism of the finale of the stage, one which saw Felix Gall crash hard.
“It was really tricky. The organization still needs to look into this. We couldn't even pedal until 200 meters from the finish. It was a bit too dangerous," 25-year-old Sivakov hit out in a post-race interview with Wielerflits. “We could have seen it coming after studying the course. We knew they were tight corners, but in practice it was even worse."
In helping Geoghegan Hart extend his overall lead in the general classification and fend off a challenge from Bahrain Victorious duo Jack Haig and Santiago Buitrago for the stage win, Sivakov managed to cross the line fourth in his own right. After a sixth-placed finish on stage one, Sivakov now lies in fourth on the general classification, just six seconds off a podium place.
" The plan was to start the corner zone first and we succeeded. This also put us in a position to win," Sivakov explains. “I actually felt pretty good. I am happy with the legs,” he concluded.
