Jonathan Milan was one of the very few sprinters who survived the chaotic finale at the Classic Brugge-De Panne this afternoon, but a late surge by Juan Sebastián Molano prevented him from taking the victory on the day. The Italian however may not keep his second place after he was seen very harshly headbutting a rival right before the finish.
“We had a lot of crashes. One at 900 meters from the finish, before the last corner there was a big crash. I hope no one is bad after that crash," the Italian said in a post-race interview. "That also made it a difficult final, one of the most dangerous I have done.”
In the middle of what were four mass crashes, Milan was spotted by the helicopter camera headbutting a Uno-X Mobility rider - although it must be said that moments before, he was also touched by the same rider. Surprisingly, this instance did not cause a crash, but immediately did cause a lot of controversy on social media.
In the end, Milan saw Molano sprint away in the final 500 meters, without responding, and was then unable to close the gap. His sprint to second place was impressive and almost enough to bring the Colombian back, but he had to settle for runner-up.
