The season is still far from it's beginning but huge amounts of dispute and discussion are currently rocking the world of cycling over a shocking sudden transfer. The UCI have issued a statement on the Cian Uijtdebroeks signing.
The Belgian had a contract until the end of 2024 with BORA - hansgrohe, but reportedly broke it and signed a new one with Jumbo-Visma, with a new agency that has come on board over the past few months facilitating the move. It is unclear at this point whether Team Visma | Lease a Bike will have to pay compensation or if they have done anything punishable, but the German team is reportedly asking for €1 million euros in compensation for the unexpected move. This is, because they publicly dispute the validity of this transfer.
Lots of analysts, former pro riders and even team managers shared their opinions on the matter, and other discussions have been opened such as Cofidis' manager Cédric Vasseur calling on Richard Plugge (current Jumbo-Visma CEO) to resign as the head of AIGCP, and Patrick Lefevere revealing that BORA - hansgrohe tried to sign Remco Evenepoel in 2021 breaking a vocal agreement they had. Chaos continues to reign at this point but no decisions have yet been taken.
Daniel Benson of GCN has reached out to the UCI, who has given a response on the current situation but do not yet have the evidence to enforce a decision in favour of either team: "The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is monitoring the situation and emphasizes that the applicable rules will be enforced."
