The Grand Tours will see a few more changes next year, more teams will have to change their jerseys for the three-week races as the UCI extended one of it's recently implemented rules.
This has been confirmed this week. Recently we have seen this rule apply to the leader's jersey in the Grand Tours, meaning that teams would have to come up with an alternative jersey if they had a pink attire at the Giro d'Italia, yellow at the Tour de France and red at the Vuelta a España. The reason being that it would not create confusion when it comes to identifying riders in the peloton, but also to provide the deserved exposure to the rider leading the race.
Teams can still opt to use alternative or temporary jerseys if they decide to do so, however this will be mandatory for all jerseys that are very similar to any classification leader's jerseys in Grand Tours from 2025 onwards. This will apply to the leaders of the points, mountains and youth classifications - the colours vary depending on the race. The races will be forced to announced with at least six months of advance how their jerseys will look so as to provide teams with enough time to do their part; and this rule also applies to the women's peloton.
We notably have Team Visma | Lease a Bike with a traditionally yellow jersey which is then replaced at the Tour de France by 'special edition' outfits, Arkéa - B&B Hotels with it's clear red jersey at the Vuelta a España is another notable example. The Giro has it's Maglia Ciclamino and Maglia Azurra; whilst the Tour has it's green and polka dots jersey; and finally the Vuelta has the green and blue polka dots jerseys for leaders of points and KOM classifications - whilst all races have a white jersey as leader of the youth classification.
