Stage 6 of the
Tour de Suisse will not be raced in it's entirety. The race organizers have issued a statement this morning announcing the changes in the stage as a result of a rock avalanche in Brienz. The change removes the two longest climbs early in the day.
The day, originally outlined as 217 kilometers in length, will skip it's first 77 kilometers. These would include the initial climb to the Albulapass - in the opposite direction of yesterday - and the climb to Lantsch, two ascents which could have a meaningful effect on the day as the breakaway stood better chances. The start is now in the town of Chur after both ascents, the riders will have 140 easier kilometers on the menu and the start has been delayed to 12:30CET.
"The route over the Albula Pass cannot be travelled," the organization shared on social media. "The sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse will therefore start in Chur instead of La Punt. The entire Tour convoy with the 23 teams will be moved in the morning from Engadine via de Flüela Pass as a first priority. The infrastructure and signalling are being set up. Due to the postponement, there will be no activities in La Punt today."
