The group stood little chances, however Jumbo's Hessmann rode a strong stage, resisting the chase of the peloton in the hattrick of climbs, taking the KOM points as he was caught just after the summit of the last of the small hilltops.
There, several attacks surged in the peloton, with Davide Formolo, Mauri Vansevenant and
Quinten Hermans between those present in the move, however with the long and flat stretch of the road that followed, there was not much drive after the gradients smoothed down. UAE Team Emirates took over the pace in the peloton as the riders headed to the summit finish in Przemysl.
Mike Teunissen launched a move at the bottom of the final climb, with a response from INEOS Grenadiers who paced into the steep final kilometer where the gradients reaches as high at 15%. Sebastien Berwick first put a move, with Quentin Pacher afterwards, but with some riders able to follow the wheels. In the final short straight where the gradients eased Sergio Higuita launched a move off the front and opened a small gap, that no-one could close heading into the line.
Pello Bilbao sprinted to second place, as Quinten Hermans finished third. The Colombian is also the new leader of the race as Jonas Abrahamsen couldn't sustain the pace of the peloton.
