The opening stage of the
Tour de Pologne saw
Jumbo-Visma keep the dominance they brough over from the Tour de France, as they did a textbook leadout to set up
Olav Kooij for the first win and leader's jersey.
The opening stage saw a breakaway of six riders go up the road, with Kamil Malecky (Lotto Soudal), Sam Brand (Novo Nordisk), Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Pro Cycling Team), Patruk Stosz and Mateuzs Grabis (Poland National Team) rode in the front throughout the day.
With the sprinter teams making sure the breakaway was under control, Malecky was the final rider to survive as he made it all the way into the final eight kilometers to go. No team had a real command over the last kilometers, with a mass crash inside the final kilometer taking several riders down.
Jumbo-Visma ended up in front over the slight uphill finale, with Mike Teunissen delivering Kooij into the final corner in prime position, and the young Dutchman was the fastest in the sprint beating
Phil Bauhaus and
Jordi Meeus to the line.
