Tibor Del Grosso is quickly becoming one of the most
exciting young talents in cycling. The 21-year-old Dutchman has enjoyed a
standout 2025 so far, building on his reputation as the next ‘Mathieu van der
Poel’.
Del Grosso began the year by claiming the Dutch national
cyclocross title before going on to defend his U23 world cyclocross crown for
the second consecutive year. Since then, he has seamlessly transitioned to the
road, delivering top performances with sixth place at Dwars door Vlaanderen and
tenth at Brabantse Pijl.
Riding for
Alpecin-Deceuninck, it’s becoming increasingly
clear that the team has another star in the making.
Speaking to Wieler Revue
after Brabantse Pijl on Friday, Del Grosso reflected on a race in which he held
his own among elite company.
"I just didn't manage to keep up with Wout and Remco. After that I was
always in good company, but everything came together again. That was a
shame."
Remco Evenepoel took the win in a sprint against Wout van
Aert on his return from injury, while Del Grosso battled on in the group
behind.
"I thought I could still compete for the podium, but I got a bit boxed
in." In the end, third place went to António Morgado.
Despite the growing hype, Del Grosso is taking it all in
stride, "I am sometimes surprised how well it goes, but I think the media
sometimes exaggerates it. I ride a few good races and am immediately one of the
co-favorites. Although it is true that everything goes fast and it is also a
compliment."
His approach remains calm and measured, with no rush to
chase every opportunity, "I've taken another step. It's that simple. For
the rest of the season I'm not necessarily focused on specific races, because I
just want to have good periods. I'm a patient person. I'm still young and I'm
certainly not in a hurry. No, I didn't have any hope of participating in
Paris-Roubaix yet. That's still possible in the next ten years."
