Thomas Gloag finally got to wear the Jumbo Visma jersey at Giro dell'Emilia on Saturday. The young Brit performed very well in the race and established himself as one of the promising young riders. He finished seventeenth, just over two minutes behind winner Enric Mas.
After seeing the British newcomer in action, sports director Addy Engels was impressed. "To ride as a trainee and as a young rider for the first time at this level and to become seventeenth is clever. That is very promising for the future," said Engels.
Thomas Gloag made a small joke about his introduction to the world of professional cycling "A bike camp was the cheapest childcare for my parents,” said the Jumbo Visma rider. He continues explaining his experience of the race. "This race is hugely difficult, also given the strong field of competitors. On the local laps, the guys all had to fight their own battle to stay with it. In the end, we came up short of a result, but the young guys really did well," concluded Gloag.
