Mattias Skjelmose was forced to abandon
Paris-Nice last week
after a heavy crash, colliding with unseen road furniture and hitting his head
hard on the ground. The Lidl-Trek rider remained down for several minutes,
raising immediate concerns.
However, while he suffered injuries to his arms and
legs, there were thankfully no serious complications, allowing him to resume
training sooner than initially feared.
Providing an update on Instagram, Skjelmose shared positive
news regarding his recovery.
“After having my back examined by specialists here in
Andorra, I have been cleared to resume my training again,” he wrote.
The Danish rider also highlighted the importance of modern
safety measures in cycling, acknowledging that his helmet played a crucial role
in preventing a more severe head injury.
“Thankfully, there’s an increased focus on safety in modern
cycling, because that helmet really saved me from getting a serious head
trauma. I feel blessed not to have gotten worse injuries.”
With the worst behind him, Skjelmose is now focused on
getting back to top form. He confirmed that his race program remains unchanged
and that he will soon head to an altitude training camp in preparation for his
next major objective.
“Now I will go to altitude training camp and continue my
race program as planned. See you in Itzulia Basque Country!”
