Tadej Pogacar has over the past years won 3 stages at the Vuelta a España and 11 at the Tour de France. If he wins a stage at the
Giro d'Italia, he will enter a restrict club of pro riders who has raised their arms in glory on all three Grand Tours.
Pogacar comes into the Giro as the main favourite for the overall classification and most likely, be the man to beat for several stages - including the first two days of racing. This is an achievement that has been accomplished by legends of old cycling such as Eddy Merckx and Roger de Vlaeminck who were recently in the headlines; Bernard Hinault and Laurent Fignon; but also modern superstars such as Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome and Peter Sagan.
Only 107 pro riders have ever managed to reach this goal; one that is very interesting as it provided an opportunity for riders of all specialties to achieve. In 2023 Mads Pedersen, Magnus Cort Nielsen and Lennard Kämna joined the list. In 2022 it was Rigoberto Urán. Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Jasper Philipsen are all among the riders who have not had this to this day.
Based on the riders who are expected to participate in the Giro however, Pogacar is not the only rider who can enter this list in May. This will also be the case for Julian Alaphilippe, Romain Bardet, Lilian Calmejane, Simon Clarke, Fabio Jakobsen, Rafal Majka, Wout Poels and Michael Woods.
