Mengs and Abreha were the final survivors from the front group and were caught already inside the final climb. Filippo Conca made a move from Q36.5, Samuele Zoccaratto of Bardiani later made a move and joined him as well. The duo formed the new head of the race. The pace significantly increased with an attack from Harold Martín López which sparked a reaction in the peloton.
Burgos-BH maintained a high pace in the peloton, seized by
Merhawi Kudus who attacked with 3 kilometers to go. He dropped López who led the race,
Paul Double put on a chase and soon after bridged across together with Frank van den Broeck. Double however kept the pace high eventually favouring his rivals.
The stage was going to be decided in an uphill sprint where Double cracked, Frank van den Broeck beat Merhawi Kudus to take his first win as a professional rider and jump into the race lead.
