The race has a list of winners that is to say the least enviable. Fabian Cancellara won its first edition back in 2010, whilst over the years Chris Froome has used the race twice and won the overall classification - one against Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans; Vincenzo Nibali won it back in 2016 before conquering the Giro d'Italia; and other top riders such as Matteo Jorgenson and
Adam Yates have now won the most recent editions in the 2020's.
In 2025 Yates defended his title successfully, having consistency in the race's climbs to bring UAE a top victory.
You can download the startlist in A4. The two races take place consecutively and because they have the same organization and location - and are so distant from the rest of the calendar's competitions - the riders are competing in both races simultaneously. And the
startlist is quite good, featuring some of the world's top teams.
UAE Team Emirates - XRG are having two-time defending champion
Adam Yates as the number 1, with Juan Sebastián Molano and Pablo Torres also in the lineup; Team Visma | Lease a Bike are present with a lineup of five riders, two of them under-23's, as
Sepp Kuss made it a clear point that he wanted to be present in the race; we've got Soudal - Quick-Step led by last year's queen stage winner Valentin Paret-Peintre; Diego Pescador, Einer Rubio and Nairo Quintana for Movistar; Luke Plapp, Mauro Schmid and Paul Double for Jayco AlUla; and an Astana that has brought several of its leaders in pursuit of UCI points and stage wins.
