Spain has had countless difficulties to form a team for the World Championships, and they have finally revealed it, being led by
Iván García Cortina who is a last-minute call to replace Juan Ayuso.
With the absence of the Movistar riders such as Alejandro Valverde and Alex Aranburu, Pello Bilbao and other figures who could be present to lead the team, many of it's riders have came from Pro Teams who will be getting a special opportunity. Oier Lazkano will, as in the Europeans, ride the time-trial event, whilst Gotzon Martin, Eduard Prades, Jesus Ezquerra, Roger Adrià and Urko Berrade all get a special opportunity to ride for the Elite team at the Worlds.
The team will be led by Iván García Cortina. Initially Juan Ayuso had taken the spot at the leadership of the Spanish team, but he is a last-minute setback. At 19 years of age however, it does not come as a surprise as the UAE Team Emirates rider has just completed a wildly successful season with a record-breaking Vuelta a Espana where he became the youngest podium finisher ever.
His teammate Marc Soler completes the lineup, whilst Cortina should be leading the team despite the heavy amount of climbing. The Spaniard has been riding a secondary calendar over the last month to score UCI points for Movistar, successfully as he brought in more than 250 points. He has finished fifth in the recent GP de Québec proving that he is on a good run of form.
