A third stage win for
Jumbo-Visma at the Vuelta Femenina and second consecutive for
Marianne Vos. The Dutch rider benefited from a reduced bunch sprint and took a dominant victory.
The breakaway of the day settled with Patricia Ortega, Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer, Maryna Varenyk and Ana Vitória Magalhães. It was a quality quartet but with several contenders for the stage win it was not an easy ask to stay out in front.
The group was caught with 38 kilometers to go as the peloton went up in the final climbs of the day. Kiesenhofer joined another attack that took place afterwards with Georgia Williams, Aranza Villalón, and Susana Perez.
The group never managed to build much of a gap however as the pace in the peloton was high, and inside the final climb the GC riders were on the attack. Annemiek van Vleuten and Liane Lippert looked to attack the race and get some time on the competition, unsuccessfully but bringing the group down to around 25 riders.
Right before the final descent Lippert once again made a move going clear, but being joined by Demi Vollering who counter-attacked. The attack was reeled back in however as the duo did not collaborate. With 2.5 kilometers to go Chloe Dygert launched an attack herself but a sprint was inevitable.
Marianne Vos was the strongest in the final push, outsprinting
Emma Norsgaard who survived the climbs and also
Marlen Reusser.
