Aleksandr Vlasov has not yet shown his best form this year but he is positive that it'll happen during the Giro d'Italia. He's been building form during the spring and in his return to the Corsa Rosa sees him aim for a high spot in the overall classification.
“For me it was the last preparation for the Giro and it was a good test for the legs,” Vlasov told Wielerflits. “I know that Roglič and Evenepoel opt for a different preparation, but I also opted for this approach two years ago, first with the Tour of the Alps and then the Giro. That worked well for me. So I decided to do the same again. And yes, I know that the Giro is a long race and that there will be a hard race for the win.”

Fourth here in 2021, the Russian climber already knows how to race the Giro. There he has ridden strongly in the multiple challenges that the races offers, which could happen again this year. Among them are brutal mountain days which the 27-year old has already prepared in training camps. “I trained hard. I've been at altitude and done good training blocks there. I have done a lot of work in recent months to race well now. And I hope that my best form is yet to come," he believes.
He crashed out of contention at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, however at Tour of the Alps he had his form growing, as in the queen stage he raced to second as teammate Lennard Kämna took the win. The BORA - hansgrohe duo will aim for the podium at the Giro and will realistically be in the battle for it.
