After the signing of Nairo Quintana, the
Movistar Team still has free spots for next season, something that has sparked rumors among cycling fans that
Alejandro Valverde could be one of those movements and, therefore, might return to the competition professional, EstadioDeporte reports.
Valverde has signed with the Movistar team until 2024 and his idea is to remain linked to Abarca Sports, which supports the team's business structure. However, the cyclist does not see himself as a director from the car, something very common among retired cyclists.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Valverde, who said goodbye to professional cycling in October 2022, finishing sixth in Lombardy, continues to maintain his physique at 42 years old, even after a season away from the UCI World Tour. In fact, the Murcian has been competing as an amateur regularly, where he has fun while showing the quality that he still has in his legs. Furthermore, his training continues to be the same as when he competed professionally, so the rumors about his return culminate.
Valverde's own words also give rise to this: "Right now, as of today, my license is not professional." An insistence on pointing out "today", when he was criticized for participating in cycling tests, which many have analyzed on networks down to the smallest point to continue arguing the possibility of seeing Valverde again on the bicycle professionally.
