The Australian national team was one of the first to reveal it's lineup for the World Championships, and in the selection it was very noticeable the absence of Rohan Dennis from the individual time-trial, which would take place at home.
The team will have Michael Matthews lead the team on the road race, whilst Luke Plapp will take over the responsibilities in the time-trial. The 34-kilometer route will have the likes of Filippo Ganna, Remco Evenepoel, Stefan Bissegger and Stefan Küng as the main favourites likely.
“It is what it is. I’ve got my brother’s wedding the day before of the TT and it’s in Germany. I’m going to be his best man. Family comes first, mate," Dennis told Velonews this weekend, confirming the 'family issues' that were given as the reason for his absence.
Dennis, the world time-trial champion in both 2018 and 2019, would come as an outsider. Although having won at national championships and Commonwealth Games, Dennis has failed to take a high level win this year, and his current form at the Vuelta a Espana is inferior to what he's had this year, finishing only 19th in the race's individual time-trial. He is riding in support of Primoz Roglic who is on the hunt for a fourth consecutive Vuelta a Espana win.
