Vincenzo Nibali's retirement from professional cycling last year has not diminished his fervour and devotion for the sport. He joins Q36.5 riders on their training camp on a bicycle regularly.
The underlying reason could be his continuous attachment to the cycling community, occupying the position of technical advisor for Q36.5. “I still enjoy spending time on my bikes. Most people at the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team training camp in Calpe were asking me: 'Vincenzo, why are you still riding with these guys?' At the end of the day, it's still my favourite thing to do."
He further added, “I'd like to go from a professional career to normal life without ceasing to do activities. During my last year of professional cycling, I had the idea of starting to practice MTB more, given that during In my career, I haven't been able to spend much time in the saddle. It's a great way to be in nature, there's a great community, and at the end of the day.”
Retirement has allowed him to allocate time to connect with fans, a luxury that was not attainable in his active days due to the demanding schedule he maintained. “I can really spend more time with them, taking pictures and doing a chat. It was also a moving experience, as many of them only knew me from watching the races on TV. Some even cried when I retired so now I get to spend time with them and they can meet me in person,” concluded Nibali.
