Rémi Cavagna explains premature departure from Movistar: "When the head isn't here, the legs aren't here either"

Rémi Cavagna and Movistar Team were a partnership that simply did not work in 2024. He was the most exciting signing of the Spanish team, called to give a leap forward in time trials and classics, but will leave after the first of an initial three-year contract by mutual agreement.

He has participated in the Tour de Guangxi, which has been his last race with the Spanish team and in statements to Marca has tried to explain his departure from the team. The fact that he was not selected to race any grand tours during the season surely motivated his public outburst a few months ago and was the beginning of his end at Abarca Sports:

"It's important to race a grand tour for a rider like me. This year has been a bit difficult. I haven't participated in any grands because it's different. But next year I think I will go. It's very important for the legs and for the condition to do it this way. I would like the Giro or the Tour". Most likely, the Frenchman is heading to Groupama - FDJ into next season.

No hard feelings with Unzué

He believes that things will go well for him in the future and assures that he has no problems with Eusebio Unzué or anyone else in the team: "I'm sure I'll find a good way. This didn't go well. When the head isn't here, the legs aren't here either. There is no problem. I talked to Eusebio and everyone. It's not a problem. I tried once in Spain, but it didn't work out. That's life, isn't it?"

He made it clear that things could not go on as they were going and that the best thing to do was to move on: "It's hard for me. I know that if I do one more year, I can't do well in the future. I prefer to change. For next year I hope to have luck and also good rankings, get points with the new team."

In the end he explains that psychologically he has not been able to adapt and that this may have been the cause of his poor performance in a Movistar Team through which he has passed with much pain and no glory:

"The new cycling has changed a lot and you have to take care of all the details. For me it's important to be good in the head, because this year I've been bad."
