More glory for Harrie Lavreysen at Track World Championships

On the final day of the 2024 UCI Track World Championships in Ballerup, Denmark, five world titles were awarded. Great Britain and the Netherlands topped the medal table with 13 and 11 medals respectively, while host nation Denmark earned seven, including two golds on the final day.

Harrie Lavreysen claimed his third gold of the week and sixth consecutive sprint world title, defeating fellow Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland in the men’s Sprint final. Lavreysen also won gold in the Team Sprint alongside Hoogland, to follow up on his gold medal rush at the Olympic game in Paris earlier this year.

In the women’s Keirin, Japan's Mina Sato secured her first world title, edging out Emma Finucane (Great Britain) and Hetty van de Wouw (Netherlands) to take the rainbow jersey. Sato’s victory, paired with Kento Yamasaki’s win in the men’s Keirin earlier in the week, marked a historic double for Japan.

Denmark’s Tobias Aagaard Hansen won the men’s Elimination race, beating Italy's Elia Viviani, while Julie Leth of Denmark claimed the women’s Points race gold.

Germany triumphed in the men’s Madison, with Tim Torn Teutenberg and Roger Kluge leading Belgium and Denmark in the final event of the championships.
