Remco Evenepoel will be a big favourite for the
Giro d'Italia, and for many the man to beat. However, the Belgian continues to be modest about his expectations ahead of the Corsa Rosa.
“For a classification you have to go with the flow. Personally, I always find it difficult to predict a classification," Evenepoel told Wielerflits. "Uphill at the wrong time, a crash, getting sick. Anything can happen."
The Vuelta a Espana winner had a breakthrough performance this summer, as besides his enormous success in the one-day races, he raced the whole Vuelta a Espana consistently and showing notable calm, despite at times not being as well protected by his team as did rivals such as Primoz Roglic and Enric Mas.
He's returning to the Giro d'Italia later this year as his main Grand Tour goal, and will likely hunt the pink jersey. "It is a bit safer to aim for a stage victory," he says however, containing expectations. "For a classification you have to go with the flow a bit. That's how I did it last year in the Vuelta."
