Whilst Tadej Pogacar is dominating at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, many of Maillot Jaune contenders at the upcoming
Tour de France are resting up after a nasty crash at the Itzulia Basque Country. According to
Soudal - Quick-Step boss
Patrick Lefevere,
Remco Evenepoel will be at the Grand Depart without issue.
"Evenepoel's recovery is going good, he spends a few days in Sierra Nevada with the team. I don't call them every day, I have my people there," Lefevere explains in conversation with Eurosport from the Giro d'Italia, where the controversial team boss was spotted on soigneur duty, handing out bottles to Julian Alaphilippe on his stage 6 breakaway effort.
With regards to Evenepoel though, Lefevere is optimistic that his star rider will be able to compete at the Tour de France somewhere near his best level despite suffering a fractured collarbone and a fractured scapula in the Itzulia Basque Country crash that also saw Maillot Jaune contenders Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic injured as a result.
"Everything goes well, only with the TT bike he's still stiff where his collarbone was broken," Lefevere concludes his assessment. "It will be OK for the Tour de France."
