Just three days after getting himself back in a Rainbow Jersey courtesy of winning the individual time-trial at the Glasgow World Championships,
Remco Evenepoel is already back at altitude and preparing for his defence of the
Vuelta a Espana.
Having spent just a single day back home in Belgium, the 23-year-old has now travelled to Andorra, wasting little to no time in stepping up his Vuelta a Espana preparations. Earlier on Monday it was also confirmed that the Belgian star would be adding the Chrono des Nations to his season-ending calendar.
Evenepoel is set for a total spell of 10 days in Andorra where he will look to improve the already high level he showcased in Stirling against the clock. “That's the life of a professional. If you want to achieve your goal, you have to do something for it. I still need two weeks to prepare for the Vuelta, but at least it's going in the right direction,” he told the Flemish TVM channel.
“I think I deserve half a day with my family. After that, I’ll be gone again for a month and a half. Some percentages to my form need to be added for the Vuelta. I’d prepared myself for the time trial but there is more climbing and a different route at the Vuelta, so I face two weeks of hard work.”
