Tadej Pogacar has been absolutely dominant in the 2024 Giro d'Italia. The Slovenian was considered the main favorite going into the race and he has totally lived up to all the expectations for this Grand Tour, and with a 6:41 lead over second overall Geraint Thomas, of INEOS Grenadiers, it's safe to say that his Giro d'Italia triumph is close to sealed.
Pogacar now has four stage wins and leads the overall standings as well as the mountain standings, but it was yesterday that he showed his clear superiority over the rest of the peloton with an incredible victory in the main stage of the Giro in Livigno, where after covering more than 220 kilometers and with an accumulated climbing of more than 5000 meters, Tadej Pogacar managed to win in a categorical way, leaving his direct opponents in the fight for the Pink Jersey almost three minutes behind.
Does it sound too good to be true? Maybe if we hadn't seen it on TV we'd say it was a lie. Tadej Pogacar's performance was so dominant that his activity was flagged on the famous Strava sports app, where many professional cyclists record their performances using GPS.
Some fans have humorously responded that it was Nairo Quintana who flagged the activity after the Slovenian prevented the Colombian from winning the first stage in a Grand Tour since 2019, while others suggest that it was Strava's algorithm that associated such a performance with an electric bike. Is it possible that artificial intelligence itself already recognizes Pogacar's performance as not possible?
