🚴 Arrivé au sein du @TeamTotalEnrg en 2022, le slovaque fera donc ses adieux au peloton sur les routes vendéennes le dimanche 1er octobre ! Une dernière occasion d'applaudir ce champion !
As we have known for several months, Peter Sagan will end his road career at the end of the 2023 season, in order to concentrate on mountain biking, his other passion. Having joined TotalEnergies in 2022, the Slovakian will therefore end his contract one year before it expires. But it does not appear that this has affected relations between Sagan and Jean-René Bernaudeau, general manager of the French team.
"In June, Peter told me that it was over," explains the latter, in comments reported by Ouest-France. "I told him: we’re going to finish in Vendée. He replied: oh yes, that’s good!" This Tour de Vendée will therefore be the last road race for the three-time World Champion.
For his last season in the professional peloton, the TotalEnergies rider spoke to Eurosport about his latest objectives in the world of cycling. At the end of the 2023 season, Peter Sagan will say goodbye to road cycling, but will not completely leave the world of cycling. He will return to his first love, mountain biking.
"When I was a junior, I could alternate between mountain biking and road cycling. Then, Liquigas offered me to become professional on the road. Did I accept directly? At the time, it was an easy decision, alone road cycling was really developed. I told myself that if it didn't work on the road, I would just go back to mountain biking. It was the right choice, but mountain biking always remained my passion. And now, my last challenge is to participate at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024."
