The Vuelta a San Juan will be back to host the World Tour peloton in 2023 and it has already announced several big names that will be at the start. Former World Champion and cycling superstar Peter Sagan has announced he will also start his season in Argentina.
The South American stage-race has for several years attracted several of the big names in the World Tour due to it's warm weather and calmer style of racing in comparison to the European early-season competitions, and allows many to have a less stressed and crash-prone start to the year. Filippo Ganna and Egan Bernal are between the riders who've already confirmed they plan to start their season there.
Sagan will likely be leading TotalEnergies in search of an early season win. Sagan has in 2013, 2014 and 2016 started his season at the now cancelled but very similar Tour de San Luis; and in 2019 and 2020 has raced the Vuelta a San Juan early in the year. He is yet to take a win in the stage-race however.
Sagan endured a difficult 2022 season with a Covid-19 infection seeing him out of form throughout the entire spring. He's won a stage at the Tour de Suisse and the Slovakian national championships, alongside a 7th place at the Wollongong World Championships, which highlighted his season.
