Caleb Ewan will ride for INEOS Grandiers in the 2025 season. The transfer season usually would've already finished, but early in the year we still have one more major move, which terminates a very unusual situation where Ewan's contract was broken but not made public.
The Tour, Giro and Vuelta stage winner, who left Jayco and Lotto through the back door the last two seasons, reinforces a British team in dire need of results, and in dire need of a sprinter as the team completely lacks the firepower in this field - even more after the departure of Elia Viviani.
Ewan was reported to be hunted down last winter by other teams looking to buy out his contract. No move happened, but on the first week of January the team removed his name from the website, and never again added him back. No comments or explanations were given, but it was clear that there was some sort of separation happening. Now it's been made official, as the 30-year old joins INEOS.
Caleb Ewan commented the following on the INEOS website after his arrival: "This is a really exciting new challenge for me and a fantastic opportunity to get back to my best with the incredible support of the INEOS Grenadiers. In 2025, my goal is to win big races again. It's been a few years since I've won any of those big races, but I firmly believe I have it in me. I'm only 30 years old, and with the right guidance and the experience that INEOS brings, I believe I can rediscover my best form here."
No concrete race plan yet, the Australian is clear that he will have opportunities: "We haven't finalized my race program yet, but I'm looking forward to having those conversations with the team. It will be exciting to combine their ideas with my ambitions and create an exciting race schedule together. Joining a new team always involves adjustments, but I already know a lot of the guys, and everything I've heard about how the team works gives me confidence that the integration will go smoothly. I can't wait to get started and see what we can achieve together."
"Caleb's track record, his talent and his ability to win big races speak for themselves. In our conversations with him we clearly understand where he is today and what his ambitions are. We know we have work to do together to achieve them, but we are both delighted with the opportunity," said Scott Drawer, the British team's Performance Director, justifying the signing.
"We have made significant changes to our performance team for 2025 and that experience will be key to enabling not only Caleb, but all of our drivers, to be in the best possible position to challenge in every race," he finished.
Meet our new teammate! 😎🇦🇺⁰⁰
