Stage 1 – A Coruña (ITT)

stage 1 O Gran Camiño 2026
A Coruña - A Coruña (TT, 15 km)
The fifth edition of O Gran Camiño will open with an individual time trial in A Coruña, starting under the spotlight of the Tower of Hercules. It will be a first test against the clock on an exposed course raked by Atlantic winds, where specialists can carve out early gaps.

Stage 2 – A Terra Chá – A Mariña

stage 2 O Gran Camiño 2026
A Terra Chá - A Mariña (148 km)
The second day links the inland plain of Lugo, A Terra Chá, with the A Mariña coast. It looks like a transition stage, but wind will be a factor, and a seaside finish could spur tactical moves or a sprint outcome.

Stage 3 – Carballo – Padrón

stage 3 O Gran Camiño 2026
Carballo - Padrón (169 km)
Stage three connects Carballo and Padrón in a day that blends coast, interior, and rolling mid-mountain. Broken terrain and the cycling culture of both towns point to a lively stage, open to breakaways and to riders who thrive on demanding profiles.

Stage 4 – Xinzo – Xunqueira de Espadanedo (queen stage)

stage 4 O Gran Camiño 2026
Xinzo - Xunqueira de Espadanedo (145 km)
The queen stage of O Gran Camiño 2026 will run between Xinzo and Xunqueira de Espadanedo. The mountains take centre stage in a day built to shape the GC, with a never-before-seen finish in pro racing that will open meaningful gaps among the favourites.

Stage 5 – Pontevedra – Monte Trega

stage 5 O Gran Camiño 2026
Pontevedra - Monte Trega (154 km)
The final stage will traverse the province of Pontevedra before finishing atop Monte Trega. The last climb, with the Atlantic as a backdrop and views across to Portugal, will be decisive for the general classification and keep the tension high to the line.

Favourites for O Gran Camiño 2026

O Gran Camiño 2026 will again offer a competitive field mixing established international names with developing talents and robust national squads. The blend of time trial, rugged stages, and a high-mountain day paints an open scenario, though several clear favourites stand out.
The standout name to watch will be Adam Yates. The Briton from UAE Team Emirates - XRG starts as the race’s prime reference thanks to his climbing punch and consistency in stage races. The queen stage in Ourense suits him perfectly, and if he limits losses in the opening time trial, he will be the man to beat.
Within the same team, Ivo Oliveira is an intriguing card, especially for the opening time trial. His output in solo efforts could place him well on GC from day one, though his role may tilt more toward supporting Yates in the mountains.
Movistar Team field a compelling duo with Iván Romeo and Pablo Castrillo. Romeo shines in time trials and rolling routes, so he could pull on the leader’s jersey early. Castrillo brings a more climber-oriented profile, ideal for the queen stage, opening the door to an ambitious strategy from the Spanish team.

Another major name is Davide Formolo. The Italian, experienced and effective on demanding terrain, may prove one of the most complete riders in the race. His feel for medium-mountain stages and resilience on tough days make him a solid podium candidate.
Among international teams, Team Visma | Lease a Bike will line up Tim Rex and Tijmen Graat. Both are younger profiles with room to grow, but capable of exploiting open stages or slipping into breakaways that could shape the GC.
On the domestic front, Samuel Fernández will be one of Euskaltel - Euskadi’s reference riders. With strong terrain knowledge and an aggressive streak, he could seek prominence in rugged stages or climb the GC.
Keep an eye, too, on riders like Alessandro Pinarello, with NSN Cycling Team, or Patryk Goszczurny, who can capitalise on the race’s unpredictability to spring a surprise.
The remaining teams, such as Caja Rural - Seguros RGA, Equipo Kern Pharma, Burgos Burpellet BH, and the Portuguese outfits, will bring competitive blocks aiming for breakaways, stage wins, or notable GC positions.
