Although
Ethan Hayter is still waiting for a first Grand Tour stage win, the British national road race champion came closer than he ever had before on stage 10 of the 2025
Giro d'Italia, finishing 3rd against the clock in the individual time trial, only being bettered by stage winner
Daan Hoole and runner-up
Joshua Tarling.
“Leaving Lucca, the roads were still a bit damp following this morning’s rain. There were a few corners where I could have gone faster and the wind was also a factor today, but overall, it was a good time trial from my side," Hayter reflected afterwards in
a post-stage press release on the official website of the
Soudal - Quick-Step team, having ended the day just 10 seconds slower than the aforementioned Hoole, and only 3 seconds down on his compatriot Tarling.
"I was hoping to get a nice result, but didn’t think I would be on the podium," added the 26-year-old Brit in the conclusion of his post-stage analysis. "It’s my first top three in a Grand Tour, and the fact that it came in a time trial makes me happy. It’s a result that gives me a lot of confidence for the next stages.”
