Mixed feelings for Jonas Vingegaard at Tour de Pologne but focus remains in overall victory - "We can expect a lot of attacks"

Team Visma | Lease a Bike saw Wilco Kelderman crash today and Jonas Vingegaard just missed out on the stage win he was looking for. However, after the key time-trial of the race, the Dane finds himself in the race lead and pole position to win the overall classification.

"It was a very tough time trial. Of course, I wanted to go for the win. It's a shame I just missed it, but I think I can be satisfied with my performance," Vingegaard said in a press release issued by the team. "I'm very happy to be leading the general classification now. Hopefully, I can keep the jersey until the end of this Tour de Pologne."

Vingegaard was beaten by Tim Wellens on the day by 9 seconds, but he distanced his teammate Kelderman, Thibau Nys and Lukas Nerurkar who were ahead of him after the opening day. In the same finale in Karpacz, the Visma rider was able to put in a strong performance on the time-trial bike. He jumps into the race lead with 24 seconds over Kelderman and 25 over the first rival Diego Ulissi. A gap that gives him a strong footing to win the GC, but he is aware that the next days - potentially tomorrow being the most dangerous one - will bring in lots of attacks and terrain that is not as hard as he'd wish.

"There are still some tough days ahead, with tomorrow's stage and Saturday's stage being the most challenging in my opinion," he adds. "The differences in the general classification are still small, so we can expect a lot of attacks."
