The Queen stage of Vuelta a San Juan sow Miguel Angel Lopez being the first to climb Alto de Colorado and securing stage win and general classification lead. The Colombian riding for Team Medellin-EPM arrived alone at the finish achieving a solo win.
The race started with a breakaway of 7 riders mainly from the local teams. Of the 7 of them, the Italian rider of Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè Manuele Tarozzi was the one who passed first the intermedius climbs and become the new leader of the mountain's classification. The break was caught by the favorites group around 6 km to the end.
At around 10 km to the finish Remco Evenepoel attacked but Ineos caught him. A succession of attacks proceeded and Remco was dropped, being Miguel Angel Lopez and Sergio Higuita alone. But the duo didn't get together for a long time since Higuita dropped and Lopez continued alone.
Later INEOS-Grenadiers Filippo Ganna attacked and turn on his time trial mode but not in time to catch Miguel Angel Lopez. Miguel Angel Lopez won ahead of Filippo Ganna and Sergio Higuita who won the sprint for the 3rd place.
