Tadej Pogacar versus
Jonas Vingegaard is the hot topic of the
Tour de France. Everyone has already presented their theories, from Wiggins to McEwen, and now Pogacar’s general manager Mauro Gianetti has come forward with his theory.
Vingegaard lost Primoz Roglič's and
Steven Kruijswijk's support in stage 15, but Gianetti is convinced it will not affect the rankings ."I don't think it changes the race a lot because there's a lot of climbing still to come. And when there's a lot of climbing, it comes down in essence to who is the strongest among the leaders," Gianetti told Cyclingnews.
He continues, "The battle will be between Pogačar and Vingegaard, and also Yates, Thomas, Bardet, and Gaudu. Teammates are important, but the most important thing is the legs of the leaders."
Gianetti is not stressed about the result. Instead, he believes winning and losing are part of sports. "We're not worried. We're at the Tour, we might win it again, and we might not win it. That's just part of the sport and of cycling," Gianetti said. "If Vingegaard is stronger, he'll have deserved it. There's no need to be stressed about it. We just have to race with the spirit of having a go, of realizing that we have an opportunity,” Gianetti concluded.
Pogacar has been trailing behind Vingegaard with a gap of 2 minutes and 22 seconds. Both riders have lost the support of 2 team members as the tour heads towards the final week.
