Mattia Cattaneo wins Tour de Pologne time-trial as Matej Mohoric maintains overall race lead

Mattia Cattaneo has proven to be the quickest against the clock at the 2023 Tour de Pologne, taking victory on the stage 6 individual time trial, with Matej Mohoric maintaining control of the general classification.

Katowice hosts a different type of stage this year, a 16.8-kilometre challenge against the clock but one that promises differences and also an opportunity for the specialists, especially as it comes with one week to the time-trial World Championships.

One of the first riders to spend a good amount of time in the hot seat was Michael Hepburn of Team Jayco AlUla, setting a benchmark of 19:40.

His time was then beaten however by UAE Team Emirates, Kiwi talent, Finn Fisher-Black, improving on Hepburn's time by 14 seconds.

As some of the time-trial specialists began to take to the course, the likes of Tobias Foss and Tim Wellens came close to beating Fisher-Black's time but it was INEOS Grenadiers' Geraint Thomas who finally managed to unseat him with his effort of 19:24.

Thomas was then unseated by Soudal - Quick-Step's Mattia Cattaneo, taking a relatively large 14 seconds off the Welshman's time.

Ilan van Wilder was 6th as he crossed the line, 18econds down on Cattaneo, Kwiatkowski came home in 7th, 20 seconds behind the Italian but Joao Almeida, just 12 seconds slower than stage winner, Cattaneo proved the best of the GC riders on the day.
