Mark Cavendish to skip Milano-Sanremo and focus on flat classics throughout spring

Mark Cavendish will be training at altitude in Colombia before starting off his season at the Tour Colombia in early February. However, he won't be trying to peak towards a particular race, and Milano-Sanremo is no longer an attainable objective for him.

The Manxman does not include Sanremo in his schedule for the spring anymore, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. He's won the 'sprinter's classic' back in 2010, and finished in the Top10 two more times in 2013 and 2014. However, in recent years it has become more and more a classic to the puncheurs and classics specialists, who make the effort to make the race harder every year that passes. Cavendish will race Tirreno-Adriatico, and then a few flat classics afterwards such as Milano-Torino, Classic Brugge-De Panne and the Scheldeprijs where he can more realistically take wins.
