According to Peter Kennaugh, his good friend and fellow Isle of Man native
Mark Cavendish has already signed his next deal, although the former Team Sky rider admits he does not know where. "He's definitely signed a contract. With whom, I don't know."
The future of the Manx Missile is one of the hottest topics in the cycling world at this current time. Having been expected to join up with B&B Hotels - KTM before the untimely demise of that team, the 37-year-old is a free agent once again. Speaking on the Never Strays Far podcast, Kennaugh revealed that may not be the case for much longer.
"From what I can gather, he is very well, very happy, good morale," Kennaugh said. "He's doing well and he's ready for next year. Every top sprinter in the peloton should be very worried. He's definitely got one [a team]." A fully fit and firing Cavendish would indeed be a big problem for the rest of the pelotons top sprinters, whilst he may be nearing the end of his illustrious career he still has the speed needed to win races.
Teams with spaces available are few and far between however, there is now a spare spot at Astana after the sacking of Miguel Angel Lopez. Meanwhile, Bahrain Victorious, AG2R Citroen, Groupama-FDJ, and Intermarché-Circus-Wanty are all yet to fill the World Tour rosters.
