Magnus Sheffield is one of INEOS Grenadiers' many gems, however a born winner for many years already. The 20-year old has already taken two wins this season, both against strong World Tour competition. However, he wants to further focus in the time-trials...
"Filippo [Ganna], he's a master of the art when it comes to time-trialing," he told Cyclignnews. "The biggest thing I have taken away is his preparation and how he is able to execute a plan, especially with the amount of resources the team has to offer us. He's extremely calm and cool. It's a cliche, but he's calm, cool and collected. He's the epitome of that," Sheffield said of his teammate - perhaps hoping to improve on it for the future.
Sheffield talked after his second place at the USA national championships, where he finished a mere four seconds behind eventual winner Lawson Craddock. “I’m happy. I made a big improvement and step up from last year. Obviously, I came here to win. Every race I line up to I want to win, and when it's less than that it's disappointing," he said after his performance
“But I ultimately can't beat myself up on that since this is only my second year professionally and so I'm very happy to finish on the podium and hope for more in the future," he added. Although he seems to have a good profile for a strong time-trialist, until now it is in the classics-like races where the American has shown his talent, taking wins at the Vuelta a Andalucia but perhaps most impressively at the highly-disputed Brabantse Pijl
“I’ve been fortunate, the Ineos team has really supported me well so far this season. I’ve had a programme that included the Classics. I got to do a lot of the big races and be on a team that won quite a few of them, Roubaix, a podium at Tour of Flanders, a podium at Tours, Amstel. I was really happy I got to be a part of it," Sheffield said. Having had a very packed start to the season, with 39 days until now, he is now taking some rest before preparing for the final part of his first season on the World Tour.
