Mads Pedersen will lead
Trek - Segafredo at the 2023
Giro d'Italia. As the American team enrolls on a training camp, plans are being prepared and following success at the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, Pedersen is now aiming towards the Giro.
Pedersen has developed himself as a classics rider, and often followed the traditional spring classics/Tour de France focus. He's raced in the Italian Grand Tour in 2017 and 2018, but steered clear ever since. After winning a stage at the Tour, and the points classification alongside three stages at this year's Vuelta, he is now poised to keep the streak running. He will race the Giro following the spring classics this year.
"Hello everyone. I am very happy to tell you that I will be contesting the Giro next season," Pedersen said in a video released by Trek - Segafredo. "After a stage victory in the Tour and several victories in the Vuelta, I hope I can also take one in the Giro. See you all in Italy!”
Although several figures have confirmed their presence or intent to ride the Giro d'Italia, the only rider expected to race it at the time being that could challenge the Dane in the sprints is Elia Viviani. More are expected to be announced in the coming weeks however.
