Luke Lamperti on his first win as a World Tour sprinter: "It’s my first win with the Wolfpack and it feels special"

Luke Lamperti is one of the riders Soudal - Quick-Step signed into the 2024 season, looking to bolster it's squad with young talents. The American sprinter had already proven himself as a quality rider earlier in the year but has won for the first time in the team today on the opening stage of the Czech Tour.

“It’s my first win with the Wolfpack and it feels special. This victory is a nice way to kick off my second part of the season," Lamperti said in a press release issued by the team. "We have a strong team here and the guys did a great job today, with the way they rode and controlled the stage, and I want to thank them for that."

The team is using this race to provide opportunities for some of it's youngest riders including Lamperti but also for race rhythm for other figures; such as Julian Alaphilippe who is preparing for the World Championships. The 21-year old was the option for today's sprint and after DSM's Pavel Bittner made his bid for the line, Lamperti overtook him from the left to take a stunning victory and also the first yellow jersey of the race.

"This success is good for the confidence as I resume my season. like being here, it’s my second time at the Czech Tour and I was impressed by the many fans who came on the side of the road to support us," he added. "Now we’re looking forward to the next stages of the week and hopefully we will get some more good results.”

This is a big success for a team that until this day continues to put some focus in the sprints with Tim Merlier. Whilst the team rebuilds itself to support Remco Evenepoel who has just finished on the podium of the Tour de France, the likes of Lamperti and Paul Magnier ensure the team continues to focus on it's more traditional aspects.
