Lotto Soudal have brought up the ranks one of the most breakthrough riders of 2022 Arnaud De Lie into the Elite team, and they have taken no time to improve their contract in order to secure a future star within it's ranks.
De Lie already had a contract until 2023, but the Belgian team took the effort to extend the contract another year, with higher conditions. The 20-year old neo-pro has won six races this year and has on several occasions beat World Tour condition. Being Lotto Soudal's new star, and on the verge of loosing several important riders such as Tim Wellens and Philippe Gilbert, De Lie has been secured in the ranks.
“What Arnaud has shown this year – as a neo-pro – has been impressive. We knew he had talent because he came through our own Development Team. But that he would win six times already in his first season is something we could never have predicted," John Lelangue said of the transfer. With Lotto Soudal  on the brink of relegation to Pro Team level, De Lie has been the team's single most important rider despite the lack of experience he came in early in the season.
De Lie himself has talked about how the two are a strong match and is eager to continue racking up the wins: “I feel very well in this team. With all riders, staff and sports directors I feel at ease. The team has worked for me almost from the first race I did. If I had confidence in a good sprint, I got all the support. That mutual trust is the most important reason for me to extend.”
“In this team I get the opportunity to grow at a steady pace. This year I was able to win on .1 level. Next year I hope to compete in bigger races. Nokere Koerse, for example, I would like to win. But first I focus on the second half of the 2022 season. There are a lot of races yet to come where I would like to get results," he concluded. After the national championships, De Lie has taken some rest after a heavy period of racing, and is set to resume his schedule at the Slag om Norg in the coming week.
