Former pro and current Lotto Dstny DS Allan Davis was pulled out of the Tour de France following the revelation of him sending messages to women within the cycling world with an inappropriate tone. Following the controversy the Belgian team took him out of the plans for the Tour, and he has now spoken for the first time.
"I regret the way I behaved and the impact it had on the person involved. I acknowledge the personal messages in May and June 2023," Allan Davis told Cyclingnews. "We discussed various topics, from relationships to family and work. I understand that my words and actions were sometimes inappropriate. I didn't consider the consequences of my behavior and I'm really sorry."
Davis was revealed to be texting a writer 'Sex and the Swiss' on social media, and the situation exposed as others claimed to have also had the Australian reach out to them the same way. After that he was also shown to be trying to silence the subject - unsuccessfully - and alongside the backlash that it had garnered Lotto Dstny could only keep him aside for the Tour where exposure would be the highest throughout the year.
In private it's unknown how the situation develops with the former riders' family life, however he tells Cyclingnews that “I've been thinking about my behavior and taking steps to educate myself about appropriate behavior online. I understand the importance of a respectful environment, both online and offline."
