It comes as no surprise, the deal seems to have been made already during the spring classics but today
Jumbo-Visma have confirmed the renewal of
Christophe Laporte. The Frenchman has signed a new contract all the way into 2026 as both he and the team enjoy a very successful collaboration.
“I feel great here. This team works in an extremely professional way, but at the same time, it feels very familiar," Laporte said in a press release. "From the first day I arrived, there was a lot of trust in the team. I thank everyone, the staff and the riders, for that. I am still learning every day, and I want to advance with the team. I know that if I stay here, I can reach my potential.”
The 30-year old was signed to help Wout van Aert in the cobbled classics, but become even more than that. Winner of races like Gent-Wevelgem and Dwars door Vlaanderen, on both springs he's shown ability to win at the highest level. He's been a key component of Jumbo-Visma's classics block which has ridden to great success over the past few months, besides supporting the team's GC ambitions including at the Tour de France.
Last year not only did he enjoy success there but he also won a stage at the Tour de France with a late attack on stage 19, but has won the Tour of Denmark and Binche-Chimay-Binche, whilst featuring on the podium of the World Championships. “Christophe joined the team last year to strengthen the classics team”, Merijn Zeeman commented. “His arrival proved to be a success, and in a year and a half, he has gained the leader status."
"In addition, Laporte plays a crucial supporting role for Wout van Aert in the classics and for the GC riders in the grand tours. We are also convinced that he still has room to grow. There was a lot of competition from other teams to sign him. But Christophe consciously decided to stay longer because of who we are and how we work. I take that as a huge compliment," Zeeman concluded.
