Jai Hindley seemed to be the big favorite to finish third behind Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar in this Tour de France, but the Australian's big lead has disappeared like snow in the sun after his crash in the second week, whose consequences are still holding the BORA-hansgrohe rider back.
"I'm still very hurt by my injuries and the biggest problem is that I can't accelerate at the moment. I was able to ride a better pace today than other days, but I still don't feel like myself," Hindley laments in a BORA press release.
Hindley is now seventh, although his advantage over number eight Gall is quite large at the moment, while Simon Yates is only a minute and a half ahead.
"I tried to hang on as long as possible today. I was riding an okay rhythm when I got dropped, but the situation is frustrating. Nevertheless, we must remain positive. I now have two days to recover further and then we'll see what I can do on Saturday."
