Three stages wins as well as the general classification, points jersey and QOM.
Team SD Worx - ProTime took absolute control of the course of action at
Vuelta a Burgos Feminas and wrapped up the cold day in Central Spain with a dominant
Demi Vollering solo ride. The Dutch lady naturally also brings home the Purple jersey for race winner after she found no match in the mountains of Castilla y León.
"It's great to win the three Spanish stage races," Vollering opens in team press release. "After a difficult spring, this is confirmation that the form is good. I also felt good in the spring classics, but each time it was just not enough," the Dutch champion returns to her unsatisfying spring where she hadn't won a single race herself, despite coming close on multiple occasions.
However in Spain it is a different story for Vollering who completed to 'Spanish Hat-trick' by winning three stage races across the country within the space of three weeks. "I am happy to win the Vuelta Burgos after Vuelta Femenina and Itzulia Femenina. It was quite cold during the final stage. My team controlled perfectly. Lorena Wiebes helped me to position myself well for the final climb."
On the steep slopes of Alto del Rozavientos, Vollering set a pace so hard, her opponents had no choice but to let go off the phenomenal SD Worx leader. "But I was so cold that I had no real acceleration left in my legs. By keeping the pace as high as possible, I hoped to cross the top alone. That plan succeeded. After that, the road to the stage win was open."
"May is a brilliant month for me. I'm already looking forward to the sequel. My big goals are coming up with the Olympics, the Tour de France and the World Championships," Vollering says about her plans for the rest of this season. "First, I want to enjoy these wins in Spain. It's special to win the overall classification at the Vuelta Burgos two years in a row."
