Absolute dominance. After winning La Vuelta Femenina and Itzulia Women, Demi Vollering has won her third stage-race in as many weeks at the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. It was an overwhelming performance in which she also managed to win the final stage by herself.
There was no true break of the day this time around, and only in the last 45 kilometers were there attacks that managed to provide some sort of meaningful gap to a group of riders. These were cyclocross specialist Lucinda Brand of Lidl-Trek and also Brasilian Ana Vitória Magalhães. The duo managed to build a small lead ahead of the day's main climbs of the day.
Brand was dropped by Magalhães but both were very quickly caught as soon as the pace accelerated in the peloton and Vollering made her move. The the 9% Alto de Rozavientos, throughout over 3.5 kilometers, the Dutchwoman made the difference. Team SD Worx-Protime controlled the race in a way that they could then fight for the stage win.
Vollering attacked with 18 kilometers to go, catching Brand whilst Magalhães was dropped. And the story of the stage, when it came to the fight for the win, pretty much ended there. Vollering was the superior climber and managed to build a strong lead over the climb, which she would then keep over the descent.
Évita Muzic put in a strong fight to try and keep the stage win a possibility, but ultimately it was not possible. Muzic did pace her way out of the rest of the GC group with Brand in her wheel. Brand then attacked in the final kilometers to race into second place on the day. Muzic finished third, with huge gaps created.
Vollering won the overall classification convincingly, taking another GC win.
