A Tour de France that started so positively for Jai Hindley has sadly seen the Australian fade away drastically over the last week. After losing more than four minutes on Vingegaard on the stage 16 time-trial, Hindley now sits in fifth, 11:15 down.
“Well, it wasn’t the day I had hoped for," laments the BORA - hansgrohe leader to his team's official website after the stage 16 individual time-trial. "I’m still feeling my injury, and it's hard to push all the power down on the pedals. We focused on recovery and therapy yesterday and did less training. I think this was important but on the other hand it was difficult today to find the perfect rhythm."
Due in to part to his injury concerns, Hindley has slipped from being comfortably on the third spot of the podium to now almost two and a half minutes off Adam Yates who currently holds that position.
"To be honest, we can only take it day by from now on, and see how I feel tomorrow," concludes Hindley. "We have to stay positive, I know the shape is there if I can recover from the consequences of the crash.”
