Michael Storer claimed a sensational victory on stage 2 of
the
Tour of the Alps earlier today, propelling himself into the overall lead of
the race.
Riding for Tudor Pro Cycling, the Australian delivered a
dominant performance on the final climb to Obertelfes/Telves di Sopra (4.2 km
at 7%), launching a decisive attack that distanced Paul Seixas, Felix Gall, and
Giulio Ciccone on the steepest slopes.
“I felt really good today and I was also the strongest rider
on the last climb,” he said in his post-stage flash interview. “I didn't look
back that much after my attack. I thought to myself: just put your head down
and go!”
His effort not only secured the stage win but also earned
him a 41-second advantage over Paul Seixas in the general classification.
Reflecting on the result and looking ahead, Storer added:
"It would be great if I could finally win the overall victory, after
having already finished second in the standings. However, we still have a big
challenge ahead of us as a team. There are still three very tough stages to
come. There are many good riders at the start who will still have a shot at the
leader's jersey."
