"I'm very very happy to win" - Jonas Vingegaard heading to the Tour de France full of confidence after dominant Critérium du Dauphiné

Traditionally a pre-cursor to the Tour de France, the Critérium du Dauphiné is a final tune-up for many riders. For Jonas Vingegaard however, seemingly not much tuning-up is needed after a dominant overall victory.

"It's great for me to win this race, the Dauphiné is one of the biggest cycling races in the world. I'm very very happy to win," said the Jumbo-Visma leader in his post-stage interview. "I can be very satisfied with this whole week. I'm in good shape and so is the team. I am surprised that the differences are so great, although I knew I was good."

On the final stage, Vingegaard was unable to claw back the stage winner, Giulio Ciccone on the final climb. Nevertheless, it was another day in the mountains where the Dane proved himself a level above all his GC rivals. "The team was fantastic again today, they were really strong. I was never alone, really perfectly done," he explains. "Yates was keen to catch up with Majka on the last climb, but I felt good so I tried something in the closing stages."

Vingegaard will now head to the Tour de France high on confidence and full of momentum after two stage wins, two second-placed finishes and an overall victory of 2:23. "I still have some work to do, but not much more," he concludes with a wry smile.
